Rainbows...

If you’re part of the Smart Art Courses Facebook Group you’ll see this month’s creative challenge is about creating a painting using Rainbow colors. That got me thinking about Rainbows and what they can signify or symbolise.
I’ve often painted with rainbow colors on my own YouTube channel, and for me, color is closely linked with feelings and emotions.
What do rainbow colors signify for you? Rainbows can symbolize hope, divine covenant, and social diversity across the globe. Appearing after storms, they inherently represent transition, peace, and new beginnings. Universally recognized yet highly contextual, this vibrant phenomenon bridges the gap between earthly life and the spiritual or mythological realms. But when you use rainbow colors in your work, do you think it represents a feeling or emotion you’re currently feeling or is it a message you want to portray or illustrate? Or is it just simply a “Rainbow”.
If you’re one of the people signed up to my Mindfully Creative course you’ll know I dive deeper in to Color - not from an arty perspective but more of a mindfulness and emotions side. Consider this for a moment, what do each of the rainbow colors mean to you? These are mine…
Red: Passion, energy and love.
Orange: Warmth and Halloween
Yellow: Summer
Green: Nature, growth, renewal, and healing
Blue: Tranquility and communication
Indigo: Intuition, meditation, and wisdom
Violet: Spirituality, enlightenment, and the imagination.
So when we paint - with color - maybe we are instinctively using colors we are drawn to or colors that have a personal meaning behind them. It could be how we are feeling at that moment in time.
I see the Rainbow Colors as a spectrum of emotions, moods and feelings and there is a color that will perfectly fit with what we think, we feel and we express. What are your rainbow colors? Are they the traditional colors or do you have your own interpretation?
